The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating gastritis and gastric ulcer comprising gel extract separated from peeled opuntia humifusa as an active ingredient. The gel extract of peeled opuntia humifusa of the present invention prevents damage to gastric mucosal cells caused by alcoholic stress and suppresses synthesis of nitric oxide that is an inflammatory factor to present gastritis and gastric ulcer inhibition effects, thereby being used as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating alcohol-induced gastritis and gastric ulcer as well as a food composition for preventing or alleviating gastritis and gastric ulcer.
