PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding method capable of suppressing generation of chatter patterns without reversing the rotational direction of a grinding wheel.SOLUTION: A grinding wheel 20 having a helical dress groove while having no intersection on an outer peripheral surface is moved relative to a first grinding direction 30 inclined by an angle &thetas;t in a forward reference direction vertical to an axial center, and then moved relative to a second grinding direction 32 included from a backward reference direction opposite the forward reference direction to grind a surface to be ground. Virtually, when the grinding wheel 20 is moved in the forward reference direction to perform grinding, a direction in which a virtual grinding trace formed by transferring the dress groove to the ground material extends and the first grinding direction 30 incline in opposing directions with the forward reference direction set as a reference, and the absolute value of the angle &thetas;t is smaller than that of the tile angle of the extending direction of the virtual grinding trace. The rotational direction of inclination from the forward reference direction in the first grinding direction 30 and the rotational direction of inclination from the backward reference direction in the second grinding direction 32 are opposite. |
