Class 110(1) A stator blade ring assembly for an axial-flow compressor or the like comprises a series of stator blades D<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, each extending in an approximately radial direction from the axis of an annular flow passage or in a direction which is tangential to a circle of relatively small diameter having its centre on the said axis (the direction, in either case, maybe having a component in the direction of the said axis) and each pivoted about its longitudinal axis or an axis parallel thereto, a cam member G<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 1 and 3 rigidly secured to the outer end of each blade and projecting in a direction having a substantial radial component relative to the pivotal axis, an operating ring, or sleeves H surrounding the blade-supporting ring B and carrying a series of followers H<SP>3</SP> respectively engaging the cam members G<SP>1</SP>, and means for moving the sleeve H bodily in relation to the ring B so that the followers H<SP>3</SP> act on the cam members G<SP>1</SP> to rock the blades D<SP>1</SP> simultaneously and similarly about their pivotal axes. The followers H<SP>3</SP> are in the form of rollers mounted on ball bearings carried by supports H<SP>2</SP> and each engaging a cam slot G<SP>2</SP> in the respective member G<SP>1</SP> so that longitudinal movement of the sleeve H causes pivotal movement of the blades D'. Sleeve H is supported on rollers J carried by radial trunnions J<SP>1</SP> and engaging longitudinal slots in guide members K bolted to the ends of the sleeve H. The longitudinal movement of the sleeve H may be effected automatically in accordanc with, say, the speed of an engine with which the compressor is associated, or the air inlet temperature. Each blade D<SP>1</SP> is pivoted at its inner end on a pin D<SP>2</SP> mounted in a spherical bearing E carried by a shroud ring E<SP>2</SP>. At the outer end, a hollow pin D is journalled in a double-row taper roller bearing and carries the cam member G<SP>1</SP> by means of splines and a securing bolt F. In the compresor shown, three rings of adjustable stator blading, which may be follewed by further rings of non-adjustable stator blading, are operated by a common sleeve H, the cam members G<SP>1</SP> of the inlet ring extending in the opposite direction to those of the two other rings. The curvature of the cam slots G<SP>2</SP> may be chosen to impart the same or different pivotal movements to the various rings of blading.</p>
