A polymerizable composition which contains a curable resin, a bifunctional monomer, and a monomer having at least one polar group that is selected from among a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group and a phosphoric acid group, with the balance made up of a liquid crystal material. A liquid crystal display element which is provided with: a first substrate that has a first electrode formed thereon; a second substrate that is arranged so as to face the first substrate and has a second electrode formed thereon; and a polymer/liquid crystal composite material that is sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate and is formed of a polymer of a polymerizable composition which contains a curable resin, a bifunctional monomer, and a monomer having at least one polar group that is selected from among a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group and a phosphoric acid group, with the balance made up of a liquid crystal material. |
