A filter has a filter medium (10) during operation clears fluid, particularly in the form of hydraulic fluid. The filter medium (10) is made of a material such that the potential difference to the fluid to be cleaned is low. The parts of the filter medium (10) have different potentials with respect to each other and/or the fluid to be cleaned such that they cancel each other at least partially, specific dissipation is aspired, or a return of electric charge to the associated filter medium (10) is provided, using a charge equalization situation.

1. A filter for cleaning oil, comprising:
a housing containing oil to be cleaned; and a filter element with a filter medium in said housing, said filter medium including at least first and second individual layers of filter materials arranged such that said oil flows in sequence through said first individual layer and then through said second individual layer, said filter materials having different electrical potentials relative to one another and to the oil to be cleaned due to electrostatic charging to at least partially neutralize an electric charge of the oil and being selected based on characteristics of said oil.
