A moisture control label 10 for product packaging comprises a base layer 12, a water absorbent layer 14, and an adhesive layer 30. The moisture control label 10 is capable of controlling the humidity of the atmosphere when placed on an internal surface of the packaging. Water absorbed by the water absorbent layer may evaporate so as to maintain a suitable level of humidity. The water absorbent layer may comprise a fibrous pad of polyolefin fibres, a hydrophilic hydrogel or a sponge. Graphics 22-26 may be provided on the base layer. The opacity of the water absorbent layer may vary as a function of the amount of water absorbed such that the layer becomes less opaque as it dries out. In this way, a graphical indicium 26 provided on the base layer beneath the water absorbent layer will become less visible as the layer dries out to provide an indication of such. The packaging is particular for tobacco products such as cigars, etc. A method of manufacturing a wound reel of such labels is disclosed. |
