PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire, in which the wet skid performance, the steering stability, the low fuel cost and the wear resistance are well balancedly improved; and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire contains≥10 mass% of a styrene-butadiene rubber (1) modified with a compound represented by formula (1) and having a glass transition temperature of -10 to -30°C, and≥10 mass% of a styrene-butadiene rubber (2) modified with a compound represented by formula (1) and having a glass transition temperature lower by 5 to 20°C than the glass transition temperature of the styrene-butadiene rubber (1), in 100 mass% of rubber components. In the formula, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>are identical or different, and denote an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a silyloxy group, an acetal group, a carboxyl group, a mercapto group, or a derivative thereof; R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>nad R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>are identical or different, and denote a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and n denotes an integer.
