PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing back scumming while maintaining cleaning performance to an image carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: transfer means for transferring developer images formed on an image carrier to a recording material; removing means for removing a developer remaining on the image carrier; and control means for controlling to form, in an area on the image carrier between the developer images transferred to the recording material, supply developer images that are not transferred to the recording material in order to supply the developer to the removing means. The supply developer images include a first supply developer image, and at least one second supply developer image that has a length in a sub scanning direction longer than that of the first supply developer image, and the amount of developer per unit area equal to or less than the amount of developer per unit area of the first supply developer image. The control means selects the supply developer image to be formed subsequent to the developer images to be transferred to the recording material on the basis of a pre-defined relationship between the type of the recording material and the supply developer images. |
