摘要 Disclosed are a moving robot and an operating method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the invention operates a camera and an illumination unit at the same time if it is determined that surrounding environment of the moving robot is dark, thereby allowing the moving robot to exactly recognize its own position and collect image data even in a dark condition and normally drives the moving robot in an operating mode in which an illumination unit is not operated, thereby minimizing the waste of power consumption. Also, by recognizing surrounding environment of the moving robot based on information acquired from various sensors, the moving robot can acquire more accurate darkness information, recognize its own position, and collect image data without regard to location and time, and therefore moving robot usage environment becomes widespread.
