In order to provide g-C3N4 capable of being handled conveniently and with ease, a compound represented by X+ mYm- (X+ represents a guanidium ion or the like, and Ym- represents a negative ion) is used as a starting material and heated, the compound or a reactant thereof is vaporized, deposited on a heated base-material surface carrying a negative charge or having &pgr;-electrons provided thereto, and polymerized upon the base material to form the g-C3N4, thereby producing a g-C3N4 film.
