The method involves creating a preoperative three dimensional image data set of the navigation pane. The two dimensional fluoroscopy image of the navigation pane is generated. The image position at a portion of the medical instrument in the two dimensional fluoroscopy image is determined. The two dimensional fluoroscopy image is registered with respect to the three dimensional image data set. The portion of the medical instrument in a signal generated from the three dimensional image data is inserted based on the image position and properties of instrument. An independent claim is included for apparatus for supporting image in navigation area of patient medical instrument.
