发明名称 Improvements in or relating to the treatment of light metal
摘要
787,960. Refining aluminium, magnesium and their alloys. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd. March 28, 1956 [April 1, 1955], No. 9524/55. Class 82(1) A process for treating molten light metals for the removal of undissolved particles (e.g. zirconium and manganese) wherein the metal is made to flow, non- turbulently, through a device providing a large number of narrow, tortuous passages, the overall direction of flow being vertical. Such a device may be made of compressed steel turnings which may be #-“ inch wide and be compacted to a thickness of #-2 inches. The porosity may be such that one litre of 0.13 c.g.s. units viscosity oil will pass through in 50-100 seconds. The average width of the passages may be one hundred or more times that of the particles retained. Fig. 1 indicates a compact A mounted on a rod B between spoked wheels C. In Fig. 2 the molten metal to be treated flows down the launder F to a tapered tube G, through a compact A into a reservoir J and thence via a control valve to a casting mould. In a modification the metal is caused to pass upwardly through the compact. An inert gas (e.g. SO 2 ) may be used and beryllium may be added to the alloy to minimize oxidation. Specifications 594,152 and 652,250 are referred to.
