A hydrogen generation device (1) comprises: a reformer (6) which generates fuel gas that is mainly composed of hydrogen from a source gas; a combustor which heats the reformer; a hydrodesulfurizer (3) which is heated by the reformer to remove sulfur compounds contained in the source gas by a hydrodesulfurization reaction; and a cooler (19) which cools the hydrodesulfurizer, wherein the reformer includes a low temperature portion and a high temperature portion which has a temperature higher than the low temperature portion, and the cooler is provided at a position corresponding to the high temperature portion of the reformer.
