<p>An aluminium-silicon-manganese-iron alloy which comprises (by weight): 8-12 % silicon, up to around 0.30 % iron, manganese in an amount that is greater than the amount of iron present, less than 0.1 % magnesium and the balance being aluminium. The iron : manganese ratio preferably lies in the range 0.2-0.8. The alloy can be used to make die casting products for automotive and aerospace applications, with the products being heat treated at a temperature in the range 350-390 0C.</p> |
