The lock has an electric drive unit (3) for actuating a blocking element in locking direction and unlocking direction. An H-bridge circuit couples the electric drive unit to a voltage supply. A comparator circuit (1) compares applied electric voltage (UAnt) and reference voltage (Uref high, Uref low) of the electric drive unit. Activation signal activates a controller (4) when deviation of the applied electric voltage from the reference voltage by the comparator circuit is applied to the electric drive unit, which is arranged on a bridge branch. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electronic steering lock for a vehicle.
