<p>The present invention relates to a method for determining the presence of a nematode in a sample comprising the steps of providing a pair of bidirectional oligonucleotide primers or an oligonucleotide probe that hybridizes specifically, under stringent hybridization conditions, to the nucleic acid (RNA or DNA) of a subgenus-cluster of nematodes, said subgenus-cluster comprising at least two species of nematodes; providing a sample in which the presence of the nematode is to be detected, and performing a nucleic acid detection assay on said sample using said pair of bidirectional oligonucleotide primers or said oligonucleotide probe. The invention also relates to species-specific detection of nematodes by employing a probe or primer pair binding specifically to the large subunit of ribosomal RNA or DNA, LSU or 28S.</p> |
