An apparatus for managing a battery according an aspect of the present invention, which is capable of calculating battery impedance changing along a progression of battery aging, comprises: a battery impedance calculating unit for calculating a battery impedance with respect to all sectors of a state of charge (SOC) of a battery at a first detection time; and an impedance updating unit for calculating the battery impedance with respect to a specific sector of the SOC at a second detection time, when the second detection time has come during operation of the battery, and calculating the battery impedance with all sectors of the SOC at the second detection time by using the battery impedance with the specific sector of the SOC at the second detection time and the calculated battery impedance with respect to all sectors of the SOC at the first detection time, wherein the impedance updating unit calculates an increasing rate of the battery impedance by using the battery impedance with the specific sector of the SOC at the second detection time and the battery impedance with respect to the specific sector of the SOC at the first detection time, applies the increasing rate of the battery impedance to the battery impedance with respect to each sector of the SOC at the first detection time, and then calculates the battery impedance with respect to all sectors of the SOC at the second detection time. |
