PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active ester resin from which a cured product having excellent heat resistance, a small change in the heat resistance after thermal hysteresis, and a low dielectric constant with a low dielectric tangent can be produced.SOLUTION: The active ester resin contains a multifunctional compound (x) represented by the following structural formula (1). At least one of the Z contained in the multifunctional compound (x) is a structural site (z1) for forming the ester.
