A gutterway strip or like structural part of a ship's hull, e.g. a bilge keel, which is put on edge and welded to the upper side of the ship's deck or to the outside of its shell longitudinally thereof, but is not to take part in the stresses to which the hull is subjected, is transversely corrugated. In the embodiment shown the strip 1 has corrugations 4 extending inwardly over a part of the width of the strip from the free edge thereof, and is welded to the deck 2 at 3. The corrugations may be performed in other ways, e.g. as a continuous sine curve.</p> |
