PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a burst optical receiver which, by reducing adjustment corresponding to a characteristic variation in the amplification factor of an avalanche photodiode (APD) and the bias voltage applied to the APD, can vary the amplification factor of the APD according to the intensity of an optical signal to be received.SOLUTION: The burst optical receiver comprises: an APD for converting an optical signal to an electric current; an APD output intensity determination unit for determining whether the output of the APD is strong or not; an APD power supply connection line for connecting the APD and a power supply for applying a bias voltage to the APD; a resistor connected in parallel with the APD power supply connection line between the APD and the power supply; and a path select switch for enabling or disabling the APD power supply connection line and the resistor, the select switch disabling the APD power supply connection line and enabling the resistor when the APD output intensity determination unit determines that the APD output is strong. |
