In the method and apparatus for introducing metered amounts of particles into a continuous flow of material a transfer wheel (5) comprising a plurality of peripherally arranged pockets (8) filled with a metered amount of particles (1) is rotated. Suction is applied from inside the transfer wheel (5) to the pockets (8) of the transfer wheel (5) to hold the metered amount of particles (1) inside the pockets (8) of the transfer wheel (5). The suction is then relieved and the metered amount of particles (1) is transferred from the pockets (8) of the transfer wheel (5) into a gas flow at a transfer location. The gas flow has a direction tangential to the transfer wheel at the transfer location. The metered amounts of particles are transported in the gas flow to the continuous flow of material.
