PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve combustion efficiency by increasing an average maximum cylinder internal pressure by suppressing intensity of flame generated in a sub-chamber, and fluctuation in every cycle, of combustion in a main combustion chamber by the flame, by suppressing fluctuation in every cycle, of concentration of an air-fuel mixture in the sub-chamber.SOLUTION: An engine includes: a main combustion chamber 9 formed between a top face of a piston 5 of the engine 1 and a cylinder head 7; a sub-chamber 23 disposed on the cylinder head and connected to the main combustion chamber 9 through a communication hole 29; a sub-chamber valve 25 for opening and closing the communication hole 29; a sub-chamber air-fuel mixture supply valve 59 for supplying a fuel for ignition to the sub-chamber 23; an ignition plug 57 disposed in the sub-chamber 23, and generating combustion flame by burning the fuel for ignition supplied from the sub-chamber air-fuel mixture supply valve 59; and a sub-chamber piston 27 configuring a part of a wall surface of the sub-chamber 23, and changing a volume of the sub-chamber by expanding and compressing the volume in the sub-chamber 23. |
