Platinum, palladium or rhodium deposited on the internal surfaces of heat exchanger tubes used in the oxidation of ammonia or combustion apparatus for VOC oxidation is recovered by blasting the surfaces with a jet of water at a pressure in the range 70-150 MPa and then filtering suspended metal particles from the water. The platinum, palladium or rhodium has been volatised from a catalyst gauze. Water is sprayed through nozzle mounted on a lance, the nozzle having a plurality of orifices which direct the water radially onto the inside of the tube.
|
