<p>A multi-stage vacuum pump comprising two half-shell stator components 102, 104 defining a plurality of pumping chambers 106 to 116 and for assembly together along respective longitudinally extending faces 118, 120; two end stator components 122, 124 for assembly at respective longitudinal end faces 126, 128 of the half-shell stator components; gaskets 28 for sealing between the half-shell stator components when assembled together at the longitudinally extending faces; and O-rings 54 for sealing between the end stator components and the half-shell stator components when assembled. Annular channels 22 intersect longitudinal recesses 14 and each longitudinal recess comprises a stop 24 fixed relative to the intersection, and the gasket and the longitudinal recess are configured that when the gasket is located in the recess during assembly the gasket is biased against the stop for locating an end portion 34 of the gasket relative to the intersection. Also described is a method of assembly which uses a tool to press the end portion of the gasket during its compression between the half shell components.</p> |
