A catalog of software assets is maintained by using plug-in 130 of browser 120 to obtain data related to Uniform-Resource-Locators (URL) of website 160 from where content is obtained, and comparing the data with stored URL data of software entities (applications, data collections). Subject to the condition that no match is found, the collected URL data is communicated to a computer environment other than the one hosting the browser, for example a server 150 or a different virtual environment. Whether users of the browser are authorized to use accessed entities 160 is determined via authorization data. The steps of obtaining and comparing data are recurrently reiterated. Obtained data can involve each tab of each browser 120 window. For some entities, second data representing the content is also obtained via plug-in 130. In this case, communicating data to a further computing environment is subjected to the second condition that second data does not match stored content data. |
