PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly convenient elevating and lowering table that facilitates operation from one side, left or right, when elevated or lowered by a helper like a registered care worker. SOLUTION: The elevating and lowering table includes: a top plate 1, a pair of right and left contracting/extending legs 2 that support the top plate 1; a gas spring 3 that urges the contracting/extending legs 2 in the extending direction; and a flexible synchronizing striate 4 for the purpose of synchronizing the contracting/extending operation of the right and left contracting/extending legs 2. The table further includes: a rod-like part 6 that is installed in a part of the synchronizing wire shaped body 4 and provided with rigidity; a braking member 9 that has a penetrating part for inserting the rod-like part 6 and that imparts a frictional braking force to the rod-like part 6 with press-contact by the inside of the penetrating part rocking in a manner press-contacting/receding; and a spring that makes the braking member 9 repulsively urged in a direction press-contacting the rod-like part 6.
