A signal source, 130, when towed behind a vessel, 110, with a streamer, 140, is provided with a steering mechanism to prevent misalignment of the source and streamer. In one embodiment the heading of the streamer, 420A, is determined, and based on this the steering mechanism adjusts the heading of the source, 420B. In another embodiment, the source apparatus comprises; at least two electrodes; one or more location buoys configured to determine location information of the source apparatus; and a steering mechanism. The signal source may be configured to generate an electromagnetic signal via two electrodes, having the steering mechanism on the aft electrode. The steering mechanism may be used to align the heading of the source with the heading of the streamer. The heading of the source may be determined from location information received from the location buoy(s), where the location information may include one or more coordinates determined via a satellite position system. |
