A basic refractory brick 30, for use in a furnace roof has separate metallic plates 40, 41, 60, 61 secured on each side face, of which one plate 60 has short embossments 64, 65 occupying less than 20% of its length at its hot end and spaced from the brick surface. The longitudinal plates 40, 40<SP>1</SP> are plane except for lateral tabs 26, 26<SP>1</SP> which overlie the cold end of the bricks and have side edges 47 and bottom edges 45, respectively, set back from the corresponding arrises 48 and 38, this latter feature appearing also on the other plates. In the assembled roof a lateral plate 60 with embossments 64, 65 adjoins a plane plate 61<SP>1</SP>. The bricks have a substantially square configuration and are supported between plates 20, Fig. 1, suspended from joists 17 hung on swivel hangers 15 by pivot plates 16. |
