In a tractor provided with wheels 4 having strakes 20 which may be projected from an inoperative road-travelling position to a groundgripping position, projection of the strakes is effected by an hydraulic jack 7 acting on a strake actuating lever 6 and operable by an hydraulic circuit which is controllable from the driving position of the tractor and includes a pipe line 8 extending through the wheel axle. As shown, the strakes 20 are operatively connected to a fixed inner ring 14 and a rotatable outer concentric ring 15, and the actuating lever 6 has pivotal connection with both rings. The rod 71 of the jack 7 is pivotally connected, via a rubber or spring shock-absorbing thrust member, with the free end of the lever 6 to move the lever through an arc over an arcuate flange portion 13 of the ring 14, the lever 6 and flange 13 having holes 0, 1, 2, 3, therein whereby the lever 6 can be locked in any desired position of adjustment of the strakes 20. Locking is effected by a spring-loaded key 12 of U-form which is pivotally anchored by one limb to the lever 6 so that the other limb can be swung into engagement with the desired hole 0-3 in the lever ready to drop into the corresponding hole in the flange 13. The flange 13 also carries a stop member 121 which is positionable to limit actuation of the lever 6 to the desired extent. The strakes 21 are provided with rubber blocks 21 on their ground-engaging faces. The hydraulic circuit comprises an oil reservoir R from which the oil is pumped by a pump D through a supply valve 18 to a pipe line 8 which extends through the fixed axle shafts 9 and communicates, via rotary joints 10, with flexible pipes 11 supplying the jack cylinders 7. Return flow from the pipe line 8 to the reservoir is controlled by a valve 19, and a closed safety circuit including a safety valve 23 connects the pump D with the reservoir R in advance of the supply valve 18. Where the axle shafts are live, rotary joints connect the pipe line 8 with pipes extending through the live axle shaft to the jacks.
