Relates to electric lighting fittings of the kind comprising a body 1 provided with means for supporting one or more electric lamps and releasable attachment means for attaching a shade to, or releasing it from, the body. According to the invention, the body includes at least one catch having a pivoted lever 6 spring-biased away at either side from a deadcentre position towards an operative or ready position, the lever being formed at one end with a retaining arm 9, which when the lever is in its operative position projects from the body of the fitting so as to be capable of clasping a shade 3, and being formed at the other end with an operating arm 10 which projects from the body of the fitting when the lever is in the ready position, so that pressure by a shade on the operating arm 10 in this position when moving the shade into place on the fitting, will rotate the lever about its pivot over its deadcentre and cause the retaining arm 9 to snap over to the operative position under the action of the spring bias. As shown, the spring bias is provided by a spring 12 anchored between a removable end cap 2 and the arm 9. A saddle 5 for supporting the lever 6 may be welded to the body, as shown, or may be retained in channels formed in the base of the body 1, by the spring 12. Specification 917,601 is referred to. |
