PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To semi-quantize the degree of analgesia.SOLUTION: Changes in scaled volume pulse waves are made observable in an analgesic index display device comprising: electrically stimulating means for passing a current through a skin surface; volume pulse wave detection means for applying near infrared light onto the skin surface and measuring the transmitted light or reflected light of the applied near infrared light to detect a volume pulse wave; scaled volume pulse wave derivation means for deriving a scaled volume pulse wave by dividing the AC component of the volume pulse wave detected by the volume pulse wave detection means by the DC component of the volume pulse wave; and display means for displaying the value of the scaled volume pulse wave.
