PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an organic light emitting element high in life and reliability, by solving such problems as mass productivity and easiness in manufacturing, by improving light extraction efficiency of a surface light emitting element in which an OLED is used, and by improving yield; and a method for manufacturing the organic light emitting element.SOLUTION: An organic light emitting element includes a first transparent electrode, an organic thin film layer and a second transparent electrode which are sequentially laminated on a light emitting element substrate, and a reflective mirror layer on the outermost surface on a side opposite to a light extraction surface. The light emitting element substrate is provided with a transparent support substrate and a high refractive index layer arranged between the support substrate and the transparent electrode and having one or two or more layers having a refractive index higher than that of the support substrate, and the high refractive index layer scatters light incident from the transparent electrode side. |
