The present invention relates to an edge light-type lighting apparatus using an LED light source which does not inhibit the thermal expansion of a light guide plate while maintaining a high luminous efficiency thereof. According to the present invention, an LED light source (3) is arranged facing a side surface of the light guide plate (2), and a substrate holding member (6) having a general ㄷ-shaped cross section is arranged so as to surround the end edge of the light guide plate (2) and the LED light source (3). An elastic supporting unit (5a) contacting the rear surface (2b) of the light guide plate (2) so as to apply an elastic supporting force is arranged such that the elastic supporting unit (5a) is supported by the substrate holding member (6), and one part (hereinafter referred to as a "stopper unit") (6b) of the substrate holding member (6) is arranged on the front surface (2a) side of the light guide plate (2) and contacts a diffusion plate (8). The light guide plate (2) is positioned by ±m in the plate thickness direction by the stopper unit (6b) supported by the LED light source (3), and thus, a relative positional relationship between the light guide plate (2) and the LED light source (3) is maintained substantially constant all the time and the luminous efficiency is maintained substantially constant.
