824,073. Paper bags. BERGHGRACHT, M. Oct. 23, 1957 [Oct. 24, 1956], No. 33141/57. Class 94(2). A method of making a packet, carton or like container having side gussets when closed and a flat bottom when opened, comprises treating the container material to render it adhesive and sealable when heated, forming a strip of the material into a tube of rectangular cross-section, folding opposite walls of the tube inwardly to form gussets 1 2 and 3, 4. thermally sealing a triangular area 8, 9, 10, 11 of each side of each gusset to the contiguous area of the tube wall 5 or 6 near one end of the tube, closing that end of the tube by thermally sealing a transverse area 7 beyond the areas 8 ... 11, folding over the area 7 and sealing it to one of the side walls of the tube. The material is made adhesive by coating its surface with a thermoplastic lacquer. Fold lines 16 which extend around the complete periphery of the container level with the upper corners of the triangular areas 8 ... 11, and fold lines 12 ... 15 in the areas 8 ... 11 parallel to the long sides thereof facilitate the opening of the container into the flat-bottomed shape. Shallow corrugations may also be formed in the area 7. |
