PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve localized corrosion of a ferritic stainless steel sheet by surface modification.SOLUTION: A surface modified stainless steel sheet is a stainless steel sheet where a surface modification layer made of a Fe-Cr-Ni alloy containing Fe and Cr diffused from a substrate is formed in a surface layer part by thermal treating a Ni coated steel sheet having a Ni coated layer on the surface of a ferritic stainless steel sheet substrate in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The average thickness of the surface modification layer is 1.5-5.0 μm. Ratios of Cr and Ni occupied in the total amount of Cr, Ni, Fe, measured by irradiating an electron beam having an accelerating voltage of 20 kV to the surface of the surface modification layer by EDX, are 10.0 mass% or more and 5.0-50.0 mass%, respectively. |
