PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide luminescent materials and organic EL elements which exhibit specifically high light emission efficiency and long life compared to conventional materials.SOLUTION: Provided are anthracene derivatives with structures represented by the specified general formula (1-1) which may have different bonding sites of a phenanthrene skeleton bonded to the 9-position of an anthracene skeleton and have different aryl groups or the like bonded to the 10-position of the anthracene skeleton. Also provided are organic EL elements using the anthracene derivatives.
