The system (50) has external application devices (10, 11) comprising a charge carriers source for generation of charge carriers. A moving device moves plastic containers (19) intermittently in a longitudinal direction during sterilization. A rotary device rotates the plastic containers in the longitudinal direction intermittently during the sterilization. The rotary device and the moving device are designed such that a rotation of the plastic containers is enabled during a movement of the plastic containers in the longitudinal direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for sterilizing a plastic container.
