The vibration hammer has a hydraulic motor (2) that is rotatable with a shaft and operated by fluid of hydraulic circuit, which is fed by a hydraulic pump (3). A sensor (5) is connected to a control and regulating unit (6) and configured to measure the fluid pressure in hydraulic circuit. The control and regulating unit adjusts the displacement volume of the hydraulic motor. The control and regulating unit is arranged such that the displacement volume of the hydraulic motor is reduced at pressure drop in the hydraulic circuit. An independent claim is included for a method for operating vibration hammer.
