PURPOSE: A coding and decoding method of images and a device thereof are provided to save the number of bit needed for coding of the information about a motion vector by accurately predicting the motion vector of a current block and reducing difference values between the motion vector and the predicted motion vector. CONSTITUTION: An encoding device searches a reference picture by using pixels of a current block and generates a motion vector of the current block (510). The encoding device generates a predicted motion vector by searching the reference picture with the previously encoded pixels which are adjacent to the current block (520). The encoding device encodes the current block based on the predicted motion vector and the generated motion vector (530).
