System for distracting an intervertebral disc space

The system has spacer guides (44, 46) provided at distal ends of sleeves (10) and exhibiting breadth perpendicular to a longitudinal axis (12) of the sleeves. Distracters have distracter heads arranged at distal ends of bar-shaped main parts. Cross sections of the heads have different dimensions in two orthogonal directions. The distracters are guided into the sleeves and rotated around a longitudinal axis. The sleeves are provided with longitudinal slots (14) extending over entire length such that the slots are laterally attached at the respective distracters.
