PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas treatment device for a fuel cell system that prevents backflow of exhaust gas through a neutralizer supply pipe.SOLUTION: Gas (exhaust gas) emitted from an air passage of a fuel cell 11 flows through a purge pipe 52. A scrubber 103 is interposed between the purge pipe 52 and a connecting pipe 106. A neutralizer supply pipe 102 is connected to the scrubber 103. A neutralizer pump 105 is interposed in the neutralizer supply pipe 102. The neutralizer pump 105 serves to pump a neutralizer for neutralizing ammonia included in the exhaust gas from the fuel cell 11, from the neutralizer supply pipe 102 into the scrubber 103. The neutralizer pump 105 is activated before an air compressor 41 starts to supply air to the fuel cell 11. In other words, air starts to be supplied to the fuel cell 11 after the neutralizer pump 105 is activated.
