PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp in which a coiled stopper for regulating sliding of a glass tube to the electrode side with respect to an electrode rod during work for welding a sealed tube can be simply and securely mounted to the electrode rod, and a method of manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The discharge lamp includes an electrode positioned in an arc tube of a discharge vessel made of glass, an electrode rod 17 for supporting the electrode by one end part thereof, a glass tube mounted to the peripheral surface of the electrode rod while parting it from the electrode, a sealed tube welded to the peripheral surface of the glass tube to form a part of the discharge vessel, and a coiled stopper 40 made of a metal wire rod, and the coiled stopper includes a glass tube side end part 42 abutting on the glass tube, a coil part 41 formed of a part of the metal wire rod, the inner surface of which closely adheres to the peripheral surface of the electrode rod, with the coil elastically deformed in the diameter-expanding direction thereof from the free state of the coil having a smaller diameter than or an equal diameter to that of the electrode rod, and a pair of end part forming parts 43 and 44 positioned on the further electrode side than the glass tube end parts formed by both ends of the metal wire rod respectively. |
