PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decrease in transmittance or decrease in display qualities caused by positional deviation of upper and lower substrates in a liquid crystal display device using an electrode having an opening.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to oppose to each other, a first electrode 13 disposed on the first substrate, a second electrode 14 disposed on the second substrate and having a plurality of second openings 18, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, in which a display section is defined in a region where the first electrode 13 and the second electrode 14 overlap. The plurality of openings 18 each have a first portion extending in one direction and a plurality of second portions extending in a direction substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the first portion in a plan view. The plurality of second portions, with one end of each portion bonded to the first portion, are disposed like branches as spaced along the longitudinal direction of the first portion. |
