Provided are a method of knitting a knitted fabric and a flat knitting machine capable of preventing a decorative portion of a fancy yarn from being caught at a slider of a compound needle. The flat knitting machine includes a plurality of compound needles 10, each including a needle main body 11 and a slider 12; a needle bed 1F in which the compound needles 10 are arranged in a line; and a yarn feeding member 3 for feeding a fancy yarn Y to a needle bed gap portion 2 of the needle bed by reciprocating in a longitudinal direction of the needle bed; wherein the operation of hooking the fancy yarn Y fed to the needle bed gap portion 2 to a hook 11A, and pulling the needle main body into the needle bed 1F is performed.
