发明名称 Improvements in and relating to fuel cell electrodes
摘要 A fuel cell electrode comprising a sintered matrix of one or more of Ni, Fe, Co, Ti and Ag and 5-50% by weight of activated carbon embedded in the matrix is made by compacting the powder mixture at 2-6 tons per sq. inch and sintering in hydrogen or ammonia preferably at 700-1000 DEG C. The metal particles are between 0.1 and 40 microns in size and the powder mixture of metal and carbon and a binder such as polyethylene glycol in toluene is screened to minus 200 mesh Tyler prior to compacting. A metal backing of Ni, Fe, Co, Ti and Ag may be formed by pressing and sintering together a powder layer of the backing metal powder and a superimposed powder layer of the metal and carbon. The activated carbon is prepared by activating carbon with limestone or it may be projector grade lampblack carbon. Graphite is not suitable and neither is acetylene black. A catalyst may be deposited on the powder prior to sintering or it may be deposited on the sintered electrode.
