PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting diode (LED) including a reflective electrode having a smooth surface.SOLUTION: A light-emitting diode includes a substrate 106, an epitaxial layer structure having first surface and second surface, an n-side electrode 101 deposited on the first surface of the epitaxial layer structure, and a p-side electrode 105 located between the second surface of the epitaxial layer structure and the substrate, and including a silver layer forming a reflective layer. The epitaxial layer structure has an n-type epitaxial layer 102 and a p-type gallium nitride base layer 104. The silver layer is formed on the p-type gallium nitride base layer 104, in contact therewith, so as to match the surface thereof. On the boundary surface of the silver layer and the p-type gallium nitride base layer 104, the surface of the p-type gallium nitride base layer 104 on which the silver layer is formed has a mean square roughness less than 3 nm. |
