PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper tube for a heat exchanger having excellent workability, which can be, e.g., cold-worked into the heat transfer tube of a heat exchanger even when being thinned and increased in strength, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Theβfiber orientation grains particularly in a rolled texture in the texture of a P based copper tube or an Sn-P based copper tube having a specified composition are suppressed by devising production conditions such as process annealing to increase a ratio between fracture strength and tensile strength, thus, even when its wall thickness is thinned, the balance between the fracture strength and bending workability of the steel tube is improved.
