The present invention addresses the problem of providing an ink jet recording device, which is capable of high-quality image printing over a long period, and an ink jet head cleaning method. The solution involves an ink jet recording device (20) provided with an ink jet head (1) having an ink discharge surface (2) in which discharge holes for discharging ink are formed, and brush bristles (3) that removes deposits attached to the discharge holes or the ink discharge surface (2) as a result of the tips of the brush bristles coming into contact with the ink discharge surface (2). The diameter of the abovementioned tips is smaller than the discharge holes.
