The present invention provides: a novel fluorene-type compound; and a photopolymerization initiator produced using the fluorene-type compound. The fluorene-type compound according to the present invention is represented by general formula (1). A photopolymerization initiator having higher sensitivity can be provided using the fluorene-type compound. A photopolymerization initiator capable of imparting superior properties can be provided by selecting a substituent or the like properly.
