The present invention relates to a battery pack including a secondary battery and a protection device for the secondary battery, wherein the protection device comprises: a measuring unit for measuring voltage and temperature of the secondary battery; a temperature predicting unit for predicting the future temperature of the secondary battery by using the temperature measured by the measuring unit; and a charging and discharging controlling unit for controlling current or voltage applied to the secondary battery according to the future temperature and the voltage of the secondary battery. According to the present invention, the battery pack can prevent swelling phenomenon in advance by predicting risk of swelling beforehand and controlling the charging and discharging of the secondary battery if the risk is detected.
